You have heard of all the classic places in Austria and would you like to experience something far away from mass tourism? We present you some really nice secret places in Austria that you should definitely visit.
Highline179 – Tyrol
How about a walk on one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in the world? In Reutte in Tyrol, the Highline179 is a particularly adrenaline-packed excursion destination, where you can walk at a height of up to 114.6 meters above the ground. It’s best to take the train to Reutte and get on the Postbus 4250 there, which you take in the direction of Nassereith Postplatz. A short time later you have already arrived in Reutte in Tirol/Ehrenberg Klause junction and can walk to the Highline179 in a few minutes. The suspension bridge is 406 meters long and connects the ruins of Ehrenberg Castle with Fort Claudia. Anyone who walks along here should be one thing above all: not afraid of heights. The cable suspension bridge is only held by four suspension cables, each with a diameter of 60 millimeters. Guaranteed one of our favorite secret places in Austria!
Hotel Fast, East Styria
Do you know those magical corners of the world where the laws of physics stop and the clocks suddenly turn slower? No? Contrary to what the English reading of the name might suggest, the family-run Mein Hotel Fast in Joglland is such a place. “Nature. Deliberately. Enjoy.” is the motto here, and that’s exactly how a holiday in this part of Styria feels. Here you can experience your time out: get out of the daily routine, out into the countryside, out of the usual tracks. On a hike, let your thoughts wander into endlessly green landscapes, and then enjoy regional delicacies during a break at the BratlAlm, which belongs to the hotel. And in the evening you can relax comfortably in the hotel’s wellness area until every muscle in your body is completely relaxed again. Definitely one of the best secret places to say goodbye to the daily hussle!
Land Of Swings, Vorarlberg
You also have a similarly fabulous view in the Bregenzerwald. The best thing about it: You can enjoy the beautiful panorama while swinging! Because in the land of swings in Damüls you will find four handcrafted “Hutschn” that are up to 1,850 meters above sea level. Incidentally, you can only reach the swings at the foot of the Elsenkopf, at the Stofel chapel, on the Ragazer Schrofen and on a hilltop in the Oberdamüls Alpine region – so a short hike is included in the visit.
Seegrotte Hinterbrühl – Lower Austria
A very special natural spectacle awaits you in southern Lower Austria: one of the largest underground lakes in the world! In 1912, when the gypsum plant was blown up, more than 20 million liters of water flowed into the corridors and tunnels, resulting in today’s Seegrotte Hinterbrühl in Mödling. With this amount of water, an Austrian could cover the average daily water requirement of around 130 liters for around 422 years. In terms of area, the Seegrotte Hinterbrühl is also the largest underground lake in Europe.
